DANCE CLASS
You are well-coordinated in class but trip, fall, or twist your ankle at least once a day outside of dance
You can't remember a time when your muscles didn't ache and you weren't sore
You get excited when you can wear colored or new leotards
A DANCER'S HOME
All of your dresser drawers are filled with some type of dancewear (leotards, tights, warmers, dance shoes, etc.)
You use random pieces of furniture as a barre (i.e.: kitchen counter, railings, chairs, etc.)
The smell of your dance bag is enough to make someone faint
Your parents just bought stock in a band-aid company
You sleep in a frog stretch/butterfly position in hopes of waking up with better turn out
You practice spotting by spinning on the computer chair.
Gifts for Christmas and your birthday include anything dance related
IN PUBLIC
You tend to walk with your feet turned out... unconsciously.
You have the urge to do dance steps in empty hallways, parking lots, and down streets
You find yourself doing a dance step or reviewing a dance while waiting in lines
VOCABULARY
Corrections like straight knees, butt in, stomach tight, arms round, etc. are permanently embedded in your brain
The word "center" has a deeper significance to you than just the middle of something
You know more French than English
SCHOOL
Sometimes, you actually sit up straight in your chair at school
You're too sick to go to school, but never too sick to go to dance class
TOES (for ballerinas, especially)
Your friends are covering up there zits while you try to hide your ugly feet
You can't remember a time when your feet were soft and un-callused
Your feet can qualify for Guinnes Book of World Records under "World's Ugliest Feet!"
You have a master's degree in toe health care
You think the best cure for a sprained ankle is to dance on it (counter stretch is the cure. PROMISE!)
You don't mind when people tell you your feet stink
You explode at the doctor when he tells you; you can't dance for three weeks because of a stress fracture
There are more blisters on your feet than toes
You have less toe nails than anybody you know
LIMITLESS LIMBS
Instead of crouching down to pick up something from the floor, you try to bend down with your knees straight, folding yourself in half
You fall asleep in a split because "it's such a comfortable position!"
You have your leg touching your nose and yet complain about how tight your body is
You prefer relaxing in a straddle on the floor than in a recliner when watching television
Cracking your back, hips, ankles, toes, and other joints becomes an everday routine
You rant and rave about the joys of stretching yourself out in every direction and people think you're just weird
You know that it's normal for your body to make obnoxiously loud cracking, popping, and grinding noises
ACCESSORIES
You go to get a hair cut and tell the beautician to cut it long enough for a bun.
Your calves are the size of grapefruits because of endless releves
You always have even just a small bottle of clear nail polish just in case you get a run in your tights
MEDIA
You sometimes check the TV Guide for any program even remotely related to dance
You notice every mistake in dance movies... Center Stage, Save the Last Dance, etc.
MUSIC
You hear any music and you just have to dance
You have a choreographed combination in your head to every song you hear
You hear music that you've danced to and immediately start doing the choreography wherever you are
You say "5,6,7,8" before everything you do
AND...
